Life is still wonderful, and I still feel frighteningly happy. Well I saw a band last night, and here I give my analysis. It was evident this band grew out of some high school friends, a group who were always the dorky ones. In an attempt to rid themselves of such a title they turned to no other but rock stardom. Unfortunately, they missed the point. To be fair, the lead singer had the ‘lead’ part down pat. That was about it. He jumped around the stage in an almost embarrassing fashion while “singing” in to the microphone and hitting off notes left right and centre. Admittedly one member of the band had a sensational (and in tune) voice, but that was the guitarist, who sang about 6 words the whole night. For the rest of the night he stayed stationary, glued to the floor, not moving, smiling, or getting into it in any way shape or form. He’d gone the “grunge” guitarist look, but it failed I think, when he turned to the purple shirt and grey work trousers. The bassist was not without musical talent, but such talent did not extend to performing, dressing or anything else for that matter. She too had attempted the rock star look, and was wearing…well god knows what it was. All I could distinguish was lots of red floaty material, a few skirts, pants, several tops (all at once of course) and flowers in her hair. Hmmm…Anyway, she’d obviously taken tips off other bassists about how to act on stage. Unfortunately I’m still not sure whether she was meant to look cool or was just exceptionally bored. Either way, she too did not move the entire night, and I didn’t see a hint of enthusiasm cross her face for the full hour. The drummer did his bit, kept a rhythm, and as a result, was probably the best member of the band. That was of course until he stood up at the end of the set and sent the drums flying across the stage in some god awful racket. I thought the highlight of the evening had arrived when the lead singer dedicated a song called "i love you" to his girlfriend. I was wrong, it seems, as it wasn't his song to dedicate. It was a version of the "i wanna get free" song, with those words changed for "i really love you". It was so ridiculously similar that the crowd started singing the actual words. This rendition was only prevented from being exactly like the original by the singer's inability to hit most of the notes. Its people like this who give me confidence to get up on stage. I suppose I could be being a little harsh. They did have some good songs, and are potentially a great band – as long as someone steps in who has a clue about stage presence and presentation. The name of this band will go unmentioned until they get it together…after all, the guitarist is my cousin ;)

Well that’s all we have time for today folks, I’ve got important things to write about the feminist poststructuralist legal dissolution of the Western Liberal Tradition’s ideal of law. It truly is exciting stuff that makes the world go round.
